MRCS continues to offer its highly successful and unique marriage preparation courses – one couple, one counsellor. The course is delivered in one three-hour session.
The course is facilitated by experienced and specially trained couple counsellors. The session covers important topics such as:
- roles in marriage
- expectations of love and marriage
- sex
- religious and cultural values and influences
- children and parenting
- family planning
- in-laws
- finance
- communication
In preparation for their course each partner answers a questionnaire and the responses give the counsellor useful insights which can help to determine which areas deserve the most attention. The questionnaire invites participants to mention any other topics, questions or anxieties they may wish to discuss and these will be addressed by their counsellor.
In MRCS we recognise the importance of this preparation for one of life’s major events and the necessity of taking some time and space in what, for many couples, is a stressful and frenetic time. In the privacy of their own course we encourage couples to explore their relationship and their expectations of a future together. We strive to create a relaxed atmosphere and, almost universally, couples express surprise at how useful and valuable they have found their time with us.
MRCS has professional and experienced couple counsellors nationwide who have been further trained to facilitate marriage preparation courses.
